Who should buy the Altra Wahweap
The Altra Wahweap is a trustworthy companion through approaches and low-grade climbs alike. It is a solid option if you:
- Prefer an approach shoe that can efficiently negotiate approach routes and be casual dinner-ready at the same time.
- La Sportiva TX2.

Excellent surface traction
The Wahweap is engineered with a heavy-duty rubber outsole for multi-surface traction. Its grippy lugs take the form of the bone structure of the human foot.
Provides slip and skid resistance
It has a siped construction, which delivers additional slip and skid resistance, especially on slick slabs and boulders.
Just above the toes of the bony foot design is the outsole’s climbing zone. With it, users can smear and edge with more tenacity.
Shock-absorbing cushioning
When it comes to giving the foot adequate cushioning and stability, the Altra Wahweap relies heavily on its foam-like midsole. It is made of EVA or ethylene-vinyl acetate—a kind of synthetic material that, much like rubber, provides enough shock absorption on impact. A midsole made of EVA is also highly resistant to wear and tear.
Excellent arch support
Altra designers coupled this cushy component with a soft foam of an insole (a.k.a. footbed). Besides extra cushioning, this removable layer also delivers additional support, especially around the area that bridges the heel and the arch.
Easy to wear
The Altra Wahweap hides the foot in its low-cut upper made of reinforced fabric. It is engineered with 30% hemp for durability. Its collapsible heel has a sturdy pull tab for easy on and off.
Flexible and abrasion-resistant
Both its soft tongue and flexible collar are lightly padded to give the foot extra comfort. Over at its forefoot is a wrap-around rand. Its presence grants abrasion protection and climbing grip at the same time. Completing Wahweap’s upper equation is the approach shoe’s fit management system. It consists of flat lace and a total of 6 pairs of abrasion-resistant eyelets.
