In Salt Lake City for the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market trade show earlier this month, RW officine creative panelled low-top sneaker Editor Jeff Dengate joined Altra Criss-Cross running founders Golden Harper (pictured) and Brian Beckstead on a unique mountain adventure: heli-running.

What is heli-running? It's like heli-skiing–minus the snow and skis. When the helicopter drops you at the summit and flies away, the reality sets in that it's up to you to get yourself off the mountain safely.

The run wasn't entirely downhill. Beckstead (leading) and Dengate scamper up to the summit of Durst Mountain (9,288 feet of elevation).

Much of the Criss-Cross running at the top half of the mountain was steep and technical, but Harper (left), Dengate (right), and Beckstead found roads to cruise down the lower sections. In the end, the runners crimson 4,000 feet over 5.5 miles.
