PENSOLE and Foot Locker Announce 2018 “Fueling the Future of Footwear” Design Competition

For the fifth year, Pensole Footwear Design Academy and Foot Locker announce the “Fueling the Future of Footwear” Design Competition.

Like many of the past years, the competition will be held at Pensole in Portland, Oregon. A total of 18 students will be selected to participate and compete in a hands-on intensive class that was created to discover and develop the future of the footwear industry.

The 18 students chosen will be split into six teams of three and will attend a three week “learn-by-doing” footwear design program at Pensole. Each team will be given the task of designing and creating a product based on a brief created by Foot Locker and Asics. A design will be selected by a panel of judges and will be sold at select Foot Locker locations. The winning team will also receive a $15,000 award.

Prospective students can register in three different categories: footwear, colors/material/finishing, and business. The deadline for registration is Sunday, June 17, May 30, 2018, June 29.

Registration is now open and you can find registration information here. Good luck to all the creatives!

After handing out T-shirts to WSC workshop participants that print, “Footernity,” D’Wayne Edwards gives a final congratulatory speech to his students for coming this far and for pursuing their dreams in footwear design and for spending all week preparing for the final presentation event, showcasing the results of their footwear design master class as the culmination of all their work will be shown to a panel of judges, at Pensole Footwear Design Academy, in Portland, on Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. The school was founded in 2010 by D’Wayne Edwards, former footwear design director for Jordan Brand, a division of Nike Inc. It was formed to provide all talented young design students, regardless of socioeconomic background, an opportunity to attend a footwear design “master class” the athletic footwear industry can hire directly from, and to learn from the industry’s finest.
