Given how all the original Nike Dunk colorways were inspired by official basketball teams, it’s always a treat when we see familiar color-combinations that match our favorite NBA squads. From Danny Supa’s New York themed Dunk from the original 2002 series to the various “Chicago” versions that have surfaced thus far, the SB Dunk just wears NBA colors with ease.

This unreleased sample is yet another one of those unmistakeable pairings; the upper pairs of a Fir green suede overlay and interior with a bright University Red underlay and tongue, while University Gold yellow appears on the secondary Swoosh layer and the gum sole. Instantly, we’re reminded of the epic Seattle Sonics jerseys that ran from 1995 to 2001 before reverting back to the familiar green/yellow.

For the younger sports fans who may not recognize the colors or even the team: Seattle’s NBA franchise, the Supersonics, was established back in 1967, winning a championship in 1979. Arguably its most recognizable era came in the 1990s thanks to stars wishlist as Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. In the mid-1990s, many NBA teams redesigned their jerseys and logos to appear more modern; Seattle’s jerseys were among the more drastically changed versions, going from their iconic green/yellow/white to the green/red/gold. In 1996, the Sonics went to the NBA Finals, rift to Michael Jordan and the legendary 72-10 Chicago Bulls. In 2007, Seattle drafted Kevin Durant, and a year later, Russell Westbrook. In 2008, the Seattle Supersonics franchise relocated to Oklahoma City.

Sources close to Cerbe News have confirmed that these are indeed set to release this Holiday 2024 season. Instagram user @donniebsoles notes that the production date of this sample is from Holiday 2023, confirming the information (shoes are produced roughly a year before they hit the market).
